Liverpool player ratings as several stars were awful against Chelsea

Alisson Becker 6

Watched a few shots go over, didn’t have much choice when coming out for the disallowed goal and no chance with opener. Some good blocks second half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 5

Defensively tested by Mount and not much chance to press forward before break, although more progressive in second half. Quality lacking, however.

Fabinho 5

Started well enough but rustiness soon apparent and was left standing for Mount’s goal. Tough going on his return.

Ozan Kabak 5

Didn’t always inspire confidence but good block from Ziyech and steady enough in possession.

Andy Robertson 7

Almost created opening for Mane and the one constant attacking threat before the interval, although Chelsea got to grips with him somewhat after that. Cleared off line from Ziyech.

Gini Wijnaldum 5

Attempted in vain to plug the many gaps in the Liverpool midfield which became a thankless task the longer the game progressed.

Thiago Alcantara 5

Defensively found wanting on occasion and more adventurous passes didn’t hit the mark. Not the only one to struggle, though. Work ethic sound. Subbed.

Curtis Jones 5

Attempts to inject energy into the midfield were too often hounded out by Chelsea. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 7

Didn’t get much change out of Rudiger early on but looked lively before break and then increased intensity further, making his substitution very odd.

Roberto Firmino 4

Pressed well first half but use of the ball was indifferent to say the least. Realisation he’d avoided substitution perked him up but only briefly.

Sadio Mane 5

Could possibly have gone down in the box for one early penalty shout but poor touch when released by Salah. Switched to the right second half but little joy.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (for Salah 62) 5

Did some bits but too often on the periphery.

Diogo Jota (for Jones 62) 6

Just nice to see him out there, to be honest.

James Milner (for Thiago 80)

No chance of saving this one.
