Liverpool player ratings - Academy youngsters impress but senior star caught out in defeat to Dortmund

Simon Mignolet 7

A bit jittery early on with the ball at his feet but soon found his bearings. Solid stop denied Gotze first half before even better second-half saves to keep out Wolf and Pherai.

Nathaniel Clyne 5

Fell asleep for the opening goal and was caught out on several other occasions. Not his best evening's work, although he did improve the longer the game progressed.

Joel Matip 6

Headed wide early on but a little slow to react in the build-up to Dortmund's first. Otherwise solid.

Joe Gomez 7

One good defensive header cleared a promising opening as Dortmund pressed for a second. Looks in good form.

Yasser Larouci 6

Up against Sancho, didn't disgrace himself and was a willing forward runner. However, booked for a foul on Brandt and his mistake prompted Dortmund's third.

Fabinho 8

Clever in possession, some classy touches. Didn't mess about with his tackling either. Decent.

James Milner 6

Full of running and always looked to get Liverpool moving. Demonstrated his engine by popping up all over the place in the stifling heat.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 7

Made one impressive first-half break out of midfield but was on occasion let down by some sloppy distribution. Flashes he is getting back to his best, though.

Harry Wilson 7

Caught a sore one off the booked Hummels, had a shot saved by Hitz and took the equaliser expertly. Grew in confidence as a consequence.

Divock Origi 6

Wasn't given a lot of service and forced to fend for himself for large parts.

Ryan Kent 6

Bit of a mixed bag. Denied an equaliser by a good Hitz save but guilty of over-elaboration on occasion. Intelligent dummy helped set up the equaliser.

Subs: Alexander-Arnold (Clyne 60) 6, Van Dijk (Matip 60) 6, Lovren (Gomez 60) 6, Robertson (Larouci 60) 6, Wijnaldum (Fabinho 60) 6, Henderson (Milner 60) 6, Woodburn (Oxlade-Chamberlain 60) 7, Jones (Wilson 60) 6, Brewster (Origi 60) 7, Lewis (Kent 60) 6.
