Liverpool plan for Dejan Lovren becomes clear as transfer stance confirmed

Liverpool are planning for the new season with Dejan Lovren on board.

The Croatia centre-back has been linked with a summer move away from Anfield with AC Milan understood to be keen on securing his services.

However, Jurgen Klopp isn't looking to sell Lovren and expects him to stay put for the 2019/20 campaign.

Despite all the speculation, the former Southampton defender hasn't indicated that he wants to leave and Liverpool have received no approaches for him.

He is scheduled to report back to Melwood for pre-season training later this month ahead of the pre-season tour of America.

Lovren, who turns 30 on Friday, endured a difficult 2018/19 season on a personal level as he started just 15 matches in all competitions.

He was hampered by a number of fitness issues and was an unused substitute in the Champions League final triumph over Tottenham in Madrid.

Joe Gomez formed a formidable centre-back partnership with Virgil van Dijk in the first half of the season with Joel Matip impressing alongside the Dutchman later in the campaign.

Klopp has added to his defensive options this summer with the £1.3million signing of Sepp van den Berg from PEC Zwolle.

The Dutch youngster is regarded as one for the future with Klopp keen to have four senior centre-backs in Van Dijk, Matip, Gomez and Lovren competing for a starting spot this term.

Lovren has clocked up 170 appearances for the Reds since his arrival from Saints for £20million in 2014.
