FSG have shown their ruthless side by firing Boston Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.
The decision to part ways with Dombrowski came after the Red Sox lost 10-5 to bitter rivals the New York Yankees on Sunday night. He has been replaced by four assistants.
The move came as a shock to senior figures, with Dombrowski leaving just 11 months after the Red Sox won the biggest prize in baseball, the World Series.
“I just found out. I’m surprised and shocked,” manager Alex Cora said following the news.
“I’m not ready to talk about it,” he added.
Senior players were also left surprised about the decision, with outfielder J.D. Martinez, a player signed by Dombrowski, admitting the dressing room was in shock.
“Honestly, it was kind of shocking to everybody,” he said. "[Cora] let everybody know. Just a shock. It’s wild.”
According to the Boston Globe , Baseball operations vice presidents Raquel Ferreira, Brian O’Halloran, Eddie Romero, and Zack Scott will run the team until a new general manager or president of baseball operations is named.
FSG have shown their ruthless side at Liverpool in the past, sacking legendary manager Kenny Dalglish after he'd guided the Reds to the League Cup and an FA Cup final.
They also parted company with Damien Comolli less than two years after appointing him as Director of Football, and Brendan Rodgers was let go early in the 2015/16 season as the Reds moved for Jurgen Klopp.
