Liverpool owners explain why they've signed Jurgen Klopp to new contract until 2024

The owners of Liverpool said there is 'no better manager' than Jurgen Klopp after the German signed an extension to his contract until 2024.

Klopp's original deal lasted until 2022 but he has now been signed up for another two years , a move which is sure to delight supporters of the club.

The charismatic coach has turned the team's fortunes around since he first joined in 2015, and the Reds are now in a fantastic position to win their first top flight title since 1990.

And a joint statement from club owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner and president of the Fenway Sports Group Mike Gordon explained just how happy they were to convince Klopp to sign the deal.

"We are absolutely delighted we have been able to reach an agreement with Jürgen – as well as Peter (Krawietz) and Pep (Linders) – on extending their time with the club," the statement read.

"As we are sure our supporters would agree, it is truly wonderful news and we are all extremely thrilled, not only professionally, but personally too.

“We feel this represents one of the big moments of our stewardship of Liverpool Football Club so far as we believe there is no better manager than Jürgen."

Klopp won the Champions League with Liverpool last season, and will be desperate to add further trophies to the cabinet over the next few years.

The statement continued: "Back in 2015 we used the phrase ‘ideal fit’ when we appointed Jürgen. This continues to apply today and, if anything, the circumstances make it more pertinent. We consider him to be the best there is.

"If Liverpool Football Club were looking to appoint the most outstanding, elite manager for our current status today, Jürgen would be the first choice – no question."

Klopp's side are next in action when they take on Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.
