Aston Villa striker to Liverpool outcast - free agents Nottingham Forest could target

Nottingham Forest’s season is suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak, but the Reds will still have an eye on potential transfers.

Prior to the suspension, Sabri Lamouchi’s side were in fifth place in the Sky Bet Championship table and challenging for promotion to the Premier League.

While Forest may look to persuade players to leave their current club to move to the City Ground, there are other ways of bringing new faces to Trentside.

A large number of players are approaching the end of their contracts across England, and Forest could look to dip into the free agent market to strengthen their squad for next season.

Here are five free agents who Forest could look at this summer.

MORGAN FOX

One player who has been linked with a move to the City Ground is Sheffield Wednesday’s Morgan Fox.

The 26-year-old is out of contract at Hillsborough this summer, and is yet to agree fresh terms with the Owls.

Derby County, West Bromwich Albion, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough have also been credited with an interest in the full-back.

Forest currently have Yuri Ribeiro and Gatean Bong as left-back options, and adding Fox to their ranks would provide further strength to Lamouchi’s squad.

NATHANIEL CLYNE

The Liverpool right-back may not have been linked with a move to the City Ground, but his future appears to be away from Anfield.

The former Southampton defender’s current deal expires this summer, and injury as well as the form of Trent Alexander-Arnold has seen his playing time in the Liverpool first-team limited.

The 28-year-old hasn’t featured this season due to injury, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Bournemouth.

Given the likelihood of his departure from Merseyside this summer, the England international will likely be looking at where his next move could be.

BORJA BASTON

The Aston Villa striker has not been linked with a move to Trentside, but has not nailed down a regular spot since his move from Swansea City in January.

The 27-year-old moved to Villa Park on a free transfer, but has made just two substitute appearances for Dean Smith’s side.

With his deal set to expire this summer, and Forest possibly looking to strengthen their striker options, signing Baston on a free transfer could be an option for the Reds.

KEINAN DAVIS

The Aston Villa striker has not been linked with a move to the City Ground, but is out of contract this summer.

The 22-year-old has struggled for regular game time this season, featuring 13 times in all competitions with his only goal coming in a 6-1 victory over Crewe in the Carabao Cup.

Davis was highly-rated after breaking into the Villa first-team in 2017 as an 18-year-old, but has scored just four goals in 57 appearances in his short career.

Given his lack of regular game time at Villa Park, a fresh start next season could be beneficial for the Lions striker.

JACK COLBACK

A name that is very well known among Forest supporters, following his two loan spells at the City Ground.

The Newcastle United midfielder was linked with a return to Trentside last summer following a loan stint last term, but instead remained at St James’ Park.

Colback initially featured for Bruce in pre-season on Tyneside, giving hope that he may still have a future, but those hopes were dashed when he was left out of the club’s Premier League squad for the new campaign.

It seems the 30-year-old does not feature in Newcastle’s plans going forward, and a fresh start for the midfielder may suit the former Forest loanee.
