Liverpool 'open talks' to sign £32m Dejan Lovren transfer replacement

Liverpool have reportedly opened talks over a move for Ozan Kabak.

According to Bild, Turkish centre-back Kabak has been identified as an ideal replacement for Dejan Lovren as the summer transfer window opens.

Lovren is expected to leave the club this summer with reports he is on the verge of heading to Zenit St Petersburg.

And youngster Kabak could offer Klopp an ideal replacement with claims the Reds are already in talks with the Bundesliga club over a move.

It is said Schalke are demanding €35m (£31.8m) for the 20-year-old, who they snapped up for €15m (£13.5m) last summer from Stuttgart.

Despite still being only 20, Kabak has been on the move plenty in his short career.

His breakthrough with Galatasaray as a teenager in 2018 saw him attract interest from a host of clubs including Manchester United and Manchester City before heading to Stuttgart.

But his instant impact and their relegation saw Schalke activate his release clause and tie him down to a five-year deal.

He has been a mainstay in their side, making 26 Bundesliga appearances and scoring three goals as well as being handed his first senior Turkey cap in November.

Kabak has a release clause in his contract which would kick-in next summer for €45m (£41m) but Liverpool are seemingly keen on a move now to bolster their options when Lovren departs.

And comments from Kabak on his admiration of Virgil van Dijk suggest a move to play alongside the Dutchman at Anfield could be of some interest.

"My personal aim is to become a top defender in maybe two or three years, like Virgil van Dijk. He’s my idol, I really like him," Kabak said earlier this season (via Metro ).

"I like his style and how he plays, so I can say he’s my football idol."
