Liverpool on red alert as RB Leipzig chief makes Timo Werner transfer admission

RB Leipzig chief Ralf Rangnick has suggested Timo Werner will leave the club this summer.

Werner, 23, has one year remaining on his current deal with the Bundesliga side and has been linked with a move in recent times.

Liverpool have been credited with an interest while Bayern Munich are believed to be keen on keeping him in Germany as a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

PSG and Borussia Dortmund are also monitoring the situation.

Leipzig want him to stay and have offered Werner a new deal but talks have ended and Rangnick has suggested the striker will be sold to avoid losing him for nothing in a year's time.

"Our position is that if he does not renew the contract, he should change clubs," he told German television station Sport1.

Despite the admission, Rangnick did dismiss suggestions approaches have already been made for the Germany striker.

"He would first have to agree with a club and this club would have to contact RB, which has not happened to my knowledge," the Leipzig chief added.

Werner is said to be a big admirer of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff recently claimed the striker would be open to a move to Anfield.

"Last year we certainly didn’t play football like we did in the season before. We have submitted an offer and we know that Timo would rather not extend – but that can still change," he added.

"Maybe he doesn’t want to go to Bayern Munich. Maybe he wants to go to Thomas Tuchel in Paris or, I have no idea, maybe to Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool or Lucien Favre at Borussia Dortmund."
