Liverpool on course to win impressive Premier League award for fifth season running

Liverpool are the cleanest side in the Premier League and are on track to claim the Fair Play award for a fifth season in succession.

Taking into account how bookings sides receive in a campaign, the award recognises the team that has best maintained their discipline over the course of 38 games.

The Reds have not received a single red card in 2020/21 and have picked up the fewest yellow cards (38) in the division.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are the only team in Premier League history to have led the way three or more years running and are set for their ninth award since the 1992/93 campaign- a top-flight record (2020-21, 2019-20, 2018-19, 2017-18, 2016-17, 2007-08, 2006-07, 1995-96, 1994-95).

Topping this table would previously earn clubs a Europa League spot, but that rule was scrapped in 2015.

The Reds’ closest competitors in the table are Burnley, who have been shown 47 yellow cards and one red with one match remaining.

Sheffield United are the division’s dirtiest team and currently sit bottom of the standings, having picked up 70 bookings and received three dismissals.

Liverpool's current total of 38 yellow cards is identical to the amount they were shown on their way to the Premier League title last campaign, though the one red card the team were shown (Alisson Becker) has not been repeated this term.

Leicester City and Burnley are the other two sides not to have had a player sent off in 2020/21.

Contrastingly, Brighton have received a shocking six red cards over the course of the season.

Arsenal (5), West Bromwich Albion (4) and Aston Villa (4) are the next three worst offenders.
