Liverpool nurse struck off by nursing council in private hearing

A Liverpool nurse has been struck off following a misconduct hearing.

A Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) fitness to practise committee has deemed that Rowena Morgan is no longer fit to be employed as a nurse following a hearing heard in private. A report made public confirmed Miss Morgan, who has been qualified for 30 years, would be struck off.

The report said Miss Morgan had initially been the subject of a 12-month suspension order for her conduct. The nature of this has not been disclosed.

A hearing held on October 20 before a panel of three NMC officials, resulted in the suspension being overturned in favour of a permanent removal from the records and stripping of Miss Morgan’s permission to practise as a nurse. According to the NMC, the former nurse operated across Merseyside and Cheshire.

In confirming the order, the publicly available report said it would come into effect at the end of this month.

A striking-off order is the most serious sanction the council can approve. It results in removing a nurse, midwife or nursing associate’s name from the register, which prevents them from working as a registered nurse, midwife or nursing associate again. This sanction is deemed to be appropriate when what the nurse, midwife or nursing associate has done is fundamentally incompatible with being a registered professional.

A nurse, midwife or nursing associate who has been subject to a striking off order - in this case Miss Morgan - may not apply for restoration until a period of five years has elapsed since the striking-off order was made.
