Liverpool Nike kit 'leak' and other concept strips as new deal draws closer

As Liverpool's kit deal with Nike draws ever closer, Reds fans are getting more and more creative online.

The Premier League leaders struck lucrative terms with Nike last year after winning a High Court battle against current manufacturers New Balance.

After a week-long case in London, it was ruled in October that New Balance's 'matching clause' was not met, freeing up the European champions to enter into a new, long-term deal with the biggest sportswear manufacturers on the planet.

The Reds' successful association with New Balance will come to an end later this year, with the new contract with Nike slated to begin at the start of June.

However, with the Premier League's resumption date still unclear due to the coronavirus pandemic, it is uncertain what will happen with Liverpool's strip as they close in on a first title in 30 years once top-flight football returns in England.

Jurgen Klopp's side, who hold a 25-point advantage at the top, need just six points from their remaining nine games to wrap up the title but appear in limbo over what shirt they will be wearing when the trophy is finally lifted a loft.

It has been reported that Nike will allow New Balance to continue until the end of the season, even if that date, as appears likely, arrives after the start of the American giant's deal with Liverpool.

Neither Nike or New Balance were able to confirm such reports when contacted by the ECHO but it would seem unlikely that Liverpool won't be celebrating their potential title triumph in the 2019/20 shirt.

Anfield sources insisted last month that no decision had been taken but after 29 games in a New Balance shirt, a late-season switch to Nike is not expected to materialise.

But as Nike's first-ever contract with Liverpool edges nearer, Reds supporters online have been imagining just what that first collection of kits will look like.

Liverpool have traditionally unveiled their new season's strips in April but with no announcement or roll-out imminent, a series of concept kits have sprung up on social media, as well as apparent 'leaks' of the new kit.

Until such a time as Nike do launch the strip, however, Liverpool fans will have to wait to see what's real and what's not.
