Liverpool Nike away kit 'leaked' ahead of 2020/21 Premier League season

Liverpool fans have had a first glimpse of next season's Nike away kit after pictures were leaked online appearing to show the new strip.

But not all fans are happy as the Premier League leaders are reverting to a green away kit for the 2020-21 campaign.

Some fans even joked that the kit - which Liverpool may yet wear to lift the Premier League trophy - looked like it had 'got coronavirus'.

Liverpool's kit deal with Nike begins on June 1, after the sportswear giant secured a £30million-a-year contract following a lengthy court battle.

The Reds' five-year deal with current supplier New Balance was due to end with the climax of this campaign.

But with the season currently suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, Liverpool may not end up being crowned champions until after the Nike deal comes into effect.

UEFA have given leagues across Europe until June 30 to complete their fixtures, so Jurgen Klopp's men may be kitted out in the new Nike attire if and when they finally get their hands on the trophy.

The new away kit, according to the pictures which were leaked on Brazilian website Mantos de Futebol, is mint green with a circular neck and a pattern incorporating apects of old and new club badges.

Unfortunately it hasn't met with universal approval from Liverpool fans, with one writing on Reddit : "It got coronavirus." Another replied: "Stay at least 1.5 metres away from this jersey."

Liverpool first wore a green away strip in the 1991/2 season - the final campaign before the launch of the Premier League.

So the kit could be interpreted as a nod to Liverpool's glorious past. Liverpool have not won the title since the top flight was rebranded as the Premier League, with their last championship triumph coming in 1990.

However, that was Liverpool's 18th top-flight crown after nearly two decades of dominance of English football, and they are still second on the all-time list, behind only Manchester United who lead the way with 20 title triumphs.
