Liverpool nightclub DJ 'Double Decks Dave' dies after sudden illness

A popular and well-known DJ - nicknamed "Double Decks Dave - who was a regular in Liverpool nightclubs has suddenly died in hospital after suffering a stroke.

Dave Humphrey went to hospital on June 30 after complaining of feeling dizzy, but his condition deteriorated and ten days later he died in an intensive care ward.

The 50-year-old was due to get married to his partner Kelly and his death has rocked his family, friends and the DJ community in the city.

The Barclays bank worker often played Popworld, Flares, Rubber Soul and other busy venues on Mathew Street, performing in the city for decades.

He leaves three children, aged 23, 18 and seven.

Partner Kelly Dolan, 30, told the ECHO: "Dave was a typical fella, he was all about the dad dancing and dad jokes, if anyone was feeling down, he'd be trying to cheer them up.

"I'm still in shock about it all, I'm worried I'm going to forget what he sounds like.

"It feels like a bad dream we might wake up from, it's still very raw."

Dave was a close friend of 65-year-old fellow DJ Andy Stamp, affectionately known to many as the "Diamond Geezer", who died in April, last year, with coronavirus.

The 50-year-old, from Walton, died from a thrombotic stroke and had multiple blood clots.

Dave suddenly started feeling dizzy at the end of June and then collapsed with a stroke at the hospital triage before having a later seizure and his health plummeting.

He ended up being paralysed on his right hand side and through he tried to give his family the thumbs up signs when they saw him, he was clearly very weak.

Friends told how Dave was even vowing to go on a booked holiday in three weeks time when he was ill, and tried to remain positive to the end.

Pal Ian Roach said: "Dave was so well-liked, full of character, and a workaholic.

"He used to work in HMV on Lord Street and then went to Barclays Bank for 15 years.

"He'd been on the DJ circuit for a long time and if he was having a bad day he'd always keep it to himself.

"Dave would have a smile on his face, he was one in a million and didn't care what anybody else thought about him, he was full of life."
