Liverpool briefly moved into top spot after Divock Origi;s last-minute winner against Wolves.
Jurgen Klopp ’s side responded after Chelsea’s defeat to West Ham to leave themselves just a point behind Manchester City in the title race.
Following on from the midweek 4-1 win over Merseyside rivals Everton, the club have been in fine form in recent weeks and will be confident heading into the hectic festive period.
Here, we take a look at Liverpool ’s next six fixtures in December, leading up to Boxing Day.
PLAYER RATINGS: Thiago good but Divock Origi stuns Wolves
IAN DOYLE: Divock Origi winner was no accident as Liverpool plan pays off against Wolves
AC MIlan at the San Siro (Champions League)
The Reds travel to the San Siro to take on AC Milan in their final Champions League group game with qualification already assured.
A daunting group when it was first drawn, Liverpool could become only the seventh club in the competition’s history to win all six of their group games.
Having already earned a place in the knockout rounds, Jurgen Klopp could use the fixture as an opportunity to give youngsters some vital experience, while resting some of his key players.
Aston Villa at Anfield
Liverpool’s next home game will see club legend Steven Gerrard return to Anfield with Aston Villa.
In his short time in charge, the former Reds captain has led Villa to two wins in three games, tasting defeat for the first time as a Premier League manager against Manchester City.
Klopp may turn to his preferred starting lineup against Villa, should he rest players against Milan, but will have selection decisions to make.

Newcastle United at Anfield
The Reds enjoy back-to-back home games in quick succession, with Eddie Howe’s Newcastle travelling to Merseyside just five days after Gerrard’s return.
Newcastle earned their long-awaited first win of the season against Burnley to lift them off the bottom of the Premier League and three points from safety.
Despite the momentum Howe will hope the win gives his side, Liverpool may look to rotate their team slightly to help accommodate their busy schedule.
Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Next up is a battle between Klopp and Antonio Conte in north London, with Spurs still finding their feet under the Italian.
Wins against Brentford and Leeds for Spurs have come between an embarrassing loss to Slovenien side Mura in the Europa Conference League.
Given more time to get to grips with his squad, however, Liverpool are unlikely to take the challenge that Conte poses lightly.
Leicester at Anfield (EFL Cup)
The final game before Christmas sees the Reds come up against former manager Brendan Rodgers in the League Cup at Anfield.
A place in the semi-final is at stake in the competition that Liverpool last won in 2012.
Though far from top priority, a domestic cup win would be welcomed by supporters, with victory over Leicester leaving the Reds just one step away a day at Wembley in 2022.
Leeds at Anfield
Liverpool take on Leeds at home on Boxing Day this year, a significant date in the English football calendar.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been hit hard by injuries so far this term but the Yorkshire club look to be seeing an upturn in performances in recent weeks.
However, Liverpool will be keen to extend their unbeaten run against Leeds, having won eight of their last 11 meetings and enjoying a 3-0 victory at Elland Road in September.
