Liverpool news: Transfer target unsure over next move as Jurgen Klopp hails departing star

Liverpool's below par season has one game remaining with attention beginning to turn to new year.

The Reds have missed out on the top four, meaning they will be without Champions League football next term, which is a major blow for Jurgen Klopp. The German is set to endure possibly the most important summer of his tenure thus far with the team in need of fresh legs.

Several stalwarts are leaving Anfield, which presents the chance for new faces to become mainstays and set about writing their own history. Midfield is a major area where Liverpool need to address, but other positions also need strengthening.

Here's the latest news coming out of Anfield.

Klopp pays further tribute to Firmino

Klopp had some special words for Robert Firmino after the Brazilian forward waved goodbye to Anfield on the weekend.

The Brazilian star signed for Liverpool from Hoffenheim back in 2015 for then manager Brendan Rodgers, for a fee of £29 million. And the money has proved well spent, with Firmino contributing to a Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and World Club Cup win during his eight seasons in England.

A further marker of the esteem in which Firmino is held at the club then came on Sunday evening, when players, coaches, and staff members held a farewell party in his honour. Decked out in a smart suit with a red lapel, the star delivered his own speech and was also praised by Klopp when the manager took to the stage with the microphone.

Timber unsure over future ahead of transfer battle

Jurrien Timber has admitted that he is in the dark over his future at Ajax amid transfer interest from Liverpool and Manchester United.

Timber is a key player for Ajax, where he has made 46 appearances in all competitions this season. But his performances for the Dutch side have led to continued transfer speculation, with Premier League sides top of the list of those interested.

United are an obvious suitor, given his association with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who is known to be a fan of the 21-year-old. Yet Liverpool have emerged as a credible alternative, with Klopp seeking reinforcements in a summer of upheaval on Merseyside.

Ex-Red released after taking aim at club

Former wonderkid Ryan Kent will be searching for a new club this summer after his Rangers exit was confirmed.

The Scottish giants have confirmed that the speedy winger will be leaving Ibrox this summer at the end of his contract. His exit was announced on Tuesday afternoon in a lengthy statement that also confirmed the departures of Scott Arfield, Alfredo Morelos and Filip Helander.

Kent’s departure brings to an end a successful spell with Rangers after originally putting pen to paper on a permanent move north of the border back in 2019. He had originally signed a loan deal with the club before a £6.5m permanent deal was struck.

He previously took aim at Liverpool for delaying his permanent switch back to Rangers after initially returning to Merseyside for pre-season.
