Liverpool news: Nathaniel Clyne to leave club at end of month

Liverpool have announced that defender Nathaniel Clyne will leave the club at the end of this month.

The right-back joined the Reds from Southampton in July 2015 and his contract will expire on 30 June, with the Merseyside club deciding not to extend his deal.

Clyne, 29, made 103 appearances for Liverpool, though injuries limited his playing time in recent campaigns.

He also spent half a season on loan at Bournemouth, joining the Cherries in January 2019.

A Liverpool statement read: “Everyone at Liverpool Football Club would like to thank Nathaniel for his service and wish him all the best in his future career.”

The club also confirmed the departures of a number of academy players.

Dan Atherton, Isaac Christie-Davies, Shamal George, Kai McKenzie-Lyle, Jack Walls, Alex Turner and Abel Rodrigues are all due to leave at the end of the month.

“They will do so with the gratitude of everyone at the club for their service and best wishes for the future,” Liverpool’s statement read.

On Wednesday evening, Liverpool thrashed Crystal Palace 4-0 thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah, Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Sadio Mane.

As a result, the Reds could win their first Premier League title in 30 years tonight if defending champions Manchester City fail to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
