Liverpool news: Mo Salah prediction made as Reds move on to Mason Mount alternative

After clinching a deal for Alexis Mac Allister, Liverpool are expected to remain active in the transfer market in the coming weeks and months.

Jurgen Klopp's side were quick out of the blocks in January, sealing an early deal for Cody Gakpo, and have repeated the trick with Mac Allister. The Argentina international has joined from Brighton, and is unlikely to be the only new face.

Other transfer news is among the focuses as we look at the latest from around Anfield. Here are the top stories affecting the Reds, who are looking to return to the Premier League's top four next term.

Reds eye Mount alternative

Liverpool have identified James Ward-Prowse as a cheaper alternative to Mason Mount, it has been claimed. The Southampton man could be available for a knock-down fee following his team's relegation.

Chelsea star Mount has agreed terms with Manchester United ahead of a potential summer move. He has just one year left on his Blues deal, but still won't come cheap.

According to The Mail, Southampton want £50m for their skipper, who has 11 England caps. However, Liverpool are believed to expect Saints to come down on their asking price as the window goes on.

Al-Ettifaq finished seventh in the Saudi Pro League this season, but averaged less than one goal a game. The former Rangers boss has reportedly been approached to boost a side set to compete with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema next season.

"Al-Ettifaq made an offer to Gerrard," a source is said to have told Reuters. "He welcomed the idea, but asked for time to study the offer."

There is also expected to be English interest as Gerrard prepares his next steps. Leicester, newly relegated from the Premier League, are among the clubs linked.

Fowler makes Salah prediction

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler expects Mohamed Salah to be in demand this summer, despite the frontman's recent contract extension. However, he made it clear he doesn't think the Reds "would or should" sell their star man.

The 30-year-old scored 30 goals last season, with 19 of them coming in the league. However, he was left frustrated as the Reds missed out on Champions League qualification.

‌"I don’t think Liverpool fans should be too worried, because he’s got a long contract and the club has proved in the past few years they won’t be forced into selling unless its on their own terms," Fowler wrote in his column for Mirror Footballi

‌"In saying that, that his statement at the end of the season declaring how devastated he was they didn’t finish in the top four, and there’s no excuse for it was a worry. To me, that didn’t sound like Mo, but his agent. And we know how HE operates."
