Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp shows class as Villarreal rage at Champions League defeat

Jurgen Klopp has shown his class after sending Liverpool loanee Nat Phillips a message after Bournemouth were promoted to the Premier League.

The defender joined Scott Parker's side during the January transfer window and has made 16 appearances to help the side claim promotion from the Championship. The Cherries secured their Premier League place with a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the same time as Liverpool's Champions League semi-final with Villarreal, but Klopp showed he hadn't forgotten Phillips also had an important game on.

It comes as Villarreal president Fernando Roig has slammed the refereeing during the second-leg tie as he shared his belief that his side should have been awarded a penalty. And the Reds have reportedly added two Bundesliga stars to their summer transfer window shortlist.

Bundesliga stars targeted

Liverpool are set to target Hoffenheim stars David Raum and Christoph Baumgartner, according to reports.

Raum, who plays at left-back for the Bundesliga side, has reportedly caught the eye of six clubs following a series of strong performances this season. The defender has three goals and 13 assists in 30 appearances this season, with reports coming out of Germany suggesting he 'will probably' move to the Premier League this summer for a fee of around £25million.

Midfielder Baumgartner is understood to have a release clause of £25m, with Liverpool said to have a 'huge' interest in signing him. But they could face competition for the Austria international, with Manchester United also reportedly keen on landing him.

Villarreal rage at referee

Villarreal president Fernando Roig says it is "scandalous" that his side were not awarded a penalty during the Champions League semi-final second-leg tie on Tuesday night.

Liverpool overcame a tricky away tie to book their place in the Champions League final in Paris later this month, coming back from going two goals behind in the first half in Spain. But things could have been worse for the Reds, with Giovani Lo Celso going down in the box after being clattered by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson – although no penalty was given.

And following the full-time whistle, Roig said the "arbitration has been very evil".

Klopp shows class

Jurgen Klopp showed his class as he congratulated Nat Phillips on achieving promotion to the Premier League with Bournemouth.

Phillips took to the field for the Cherries as Liverpool were playing their Champions League semi-final second-leg against Villarreal. And Klopp showed he hadn't forgotten the Reds loanee was also taking part in a very important game as he took a moment out of his post-match press conference to congratulate Phillips for his achievement.
