Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp changes transfer plans as Reds revive Federico Chiesa interest

Liverpool have already completed their first summer transfer, signing World Cup winning midfielder Alex Mac Allister from Brighton for an initial fee of £45million.

Mac Allister is expected to be the first of several additions for Liverpool this summer as they look to bounce back from a lacklustre season. Jurgen Klopp's side missed out on qualifying for the Champions League after finishing fifth, 22 points behind champions Manchester City.

They were also knocked out of both the FA Cup and the League Cup in the fourth round, while Real Madrid thrashed them 6-2 on aggregate in the last 16 of the Champions League. Here's all the latest news from Anfield.

Klopp changes transfer plans

Following the signing of Mac Allister, Liverpool are ready to end their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount claim The Guardian.

Mac Allister is unlikely to be the only midfielder Liverpool sign this summer, following the departures of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita. However, the report states that Liverpool are set to pull out of the race for Mount, with Manchester United now the frontrunners.

The Reds have also been linked with Borussia Monchengladbach's Manu Kone and OGC Nice star Khephren Thuram and it is claimed the club could firm up their interest in the pair in the coming weeks.

Liverpool revive Chiesa interest

The Reds failed with an £86m swoop for the Italian international back in 2020, but have now revived their interest Corriere dello Sport claim. The 25-year-old is said to be considering leaving Juventus as he is not a 'central figure' for the club.

The report states that Liverpool are monitoring the situation, while fellow Premier League side Newcastle and Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are also interested in signing Chiesa.

Keita joins Wolfsburg

Keita has signed for Wolfsburg on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Liverpool.

"I'm really excited for my new challenge here in Bremen," Keita said. "I was impressed by what the club told me about the setup here and Werder's style of play. The coach [Ole Werner] gave me a really good feeling and showed how I can help the team.

"Werder is a special club and I know the Weserstadion from my time with Leipzig. This club and its philosophy will be a good match for me, so this is the right step for my career."
