Liverpool news: Dubai and Conor McGregor eye takeovers amid Sir Jim Ratcliffe decision

Takeover is the talk of the town after Fenway Sports Group decided it is open to selling Liverpool after 12 years as owner.

Interested parties are beginning to emerge after a whopping asking price of £4billion was set. Investors in Dubai are among those weighing up a bid for the Reds, while UFC superstar Conor McGregor has voiced his desire to take over at Anfield.

Elsewhere, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Britain's richest man, has decided against purchasing the Premier League club. Against the backdrop of a potential sale, Liverpool are in action against Derby County in the third round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Here, Mirror Football brings you the latest headlines coming out of the red half of Merseyside.

Dubai investors plot takeover

Dubai International Capital (DIC), which failed with an attempt to purchase Liverpool in 2007, is considering a $5billion (£4.3bn) bid for the club, according to reports in the Middle East.

Given the Reds were valued at over £3.5bn earlier this year, it will take a hugely-wealthy individual, consortium or state to complete a takeover. DIC fits the bill in that regard and Arabian Business reported it 'could be eyeing' a huge bid after being alerted to FSG's stance.

McGregor throws hat into ring

Former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor claims he has already "requested information" about purchasing Liverpool.

The Irishman is a Manchester United fan but declared he "would love" to own their arch-rivals. His net worth is reportedly $200million (£173m), so he would need to be part of a consortium with other investors in order to buy Liverpool from Fenway Sports Group, who have owned the club since taking over from Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr. in 2010.

Replying to a Twitter user who asked him to buy the Reds, McGregor wrote: "I WOULD LOVE IT! I requested my information on this, yes. Soon as I heard. What a turn of events! What a club!"

Ratcliffe rules out bid

While Dubai International Capital and Conor McGregor are certainly interested, Sir Jim Ratcliffe will not be pursuing a Liverpool takeover, instead focussing his efforts on turning Nice into a side which can compete with Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.

A spokesperson for Ratcliffe told the Daily Telegraph : "Our position has developed since the summer and we are now focusing our efforts in Nice and raising our ambitions for the club to make them into a top-tier club in France to compete with PSG. This would represent much better value for our investment than buying one of the top-tier Premier League clubs."
