Liverpool must now copy Man City, Manchester United and Chelsea after Premier League title win

Liverpool's 30-year wait for a Premier League title finally ended when their lead at the top of the 2019/20 table became simply unassailable back in June after Manchester City lost to Chelsea upon the restart of football.

The Reds finished the season on an incredible 99 points. However, for English football's now undisputed most-successful team in history, the length of time they endured before claiming that 19th league title was more or less unbelievable.

What must be noted though, is that this is not a new phenomenon.

The team who Liverpool have been locked in battle with to claim top spot of the most successful team in history also had a significant drought in not claiming a league title.

That is to say, Manchester United lived through 26 years without lifting the top-flight trophy between 1968 and 1993.

Of course, the Anfield faithful will need no telling how Alex Ferguson led his team to almost complete Premier League domination - winning the title 13 times in the following 20 seasons - but that is something Jurgen Klopp and the Reds must learn from, understand and follow to maintain this level they have now reached.

Manchester City are another side who had an enormous wait between league titles having had to wait 44 years after winning the old First Division in 1968 before their 2012 triumph.

Again, though, when things started to change for them in the top flight - they really started to change.

Since their victory in 2012, City have lifted the Premier League trophy a further three times which is again something Liverpool can look at and work out exactly how they managed to maintain an exceedingly high level in the domestic competition before applying that to themselves.

Chelsea too are another example of a club who have waited vast amounts of time for a league title - with 49 seasons whistling by between 1955 and 2005 before the London side claimed two title wins.

They have claimed victory in the top flight a further four times after their inaugural Premier League win too - putting together back to back titles after their first effort and once again, that is something the European champions can learn from as they head into the 2020/21 campaign.

Liverpool are without doubt well-placed to achieve such incredible domination in the league given that they currently hold the top-flight trophy alongside Champions League, Super Cup and Club World Cup silverware as one of the finest teams on the planet.

However, they know it won't be easy as rival clubs will be baying for Liverpool's crown and it will be up to Klopp, his players and everyone involved at Anfield to consolidate their position and find another gear to go again.

By doing that, the Reds will move themselves to a place within the upper echelons of footballing history while laying claim to be one of the greatest ever sides to grace the game.
