Liverpool must learn from huge Man City transfer error this summer to retain Premier League title

Liverpool's new Nike kit was released this week. What are your thoughts on it?

I like the new kit. It’s grown on me every time I see it, it’s very smart and some of the training gear is class! I do think, however, that with the teal green collar, it may have looked even better with the old badge.

Transfers get fans as excited as new kit releases. What do Liverpool *need* to spend this summer, and on who?

I don’t think Liverpool necessarily *need* to spend this summer. Some signings such as Thiago Alcantara who has been linked would be fantastic and at one point, signing Werner seemed a certainty but a lot has happened since then!

New signings are ALWAYS nice but I have complete trust in Jurgen Klopp and FSG. I get the frustration when rivals are signing the likes of Jadon Sancho and Timo Werner, who are both class players that we have been linked with, but the club have rarely got it wrong and people have no reason to panic.

That being said, I do think we will see a couple of deals done this summer, but they’ll be dependent on sales. After the sale of Dejan Lovren, I believe Hoever may be good enough to step up, but I also think Ben White has shown his quality for Leeds this season and he may be a very good option.

I’d also like to sign a back-up left back; Jamal Lewis would be nice but we may see someone like Lloyd Kelly who could kill two birds with one stone.

PSG are being linked with a move for Joel Matip... surely that can't happen?

Joel Matip cannot be sold FULL STOP. Both he and Joe Gomez have shown that they are fantastic partners for Virgil van Dijk. We’ve seen from Man City’s issues this year, how important it is to have more than one world-class centre-back.

We are lucky that at this football club we have three of the best centre-backs in the league and by selling Matip we would be weakening our options massively.

Manchester United appear to be edging closer to signing Jadon Sancho, and Chelsea have already spent big. Worried?

They are certainly strengthening but is Jadon Sancho someone who will earn Manchester United the 33 points in which they finished behind us this season? I don’t think so. I can’t see them winning the Premier League with Ole as their manager.

As for Chelsea, they seem to be splashing a lot of cash in areas where they are already strong. Werner is a good addition for them and Kai Havertz would be a superb signing.

But they’ve been defensively poor all season and that’s where they need to strengthen if they want to challenge for the title.

Tuesday marked two years since Liverpool fans first saw Alisson Becker in action. Can you sum up his influence since then?

Alisson Becker is phenomenal and was one of the most important signings in the history of this football club.

The nightmare in Kyiv was behind us and it was pivotal we moved on from the mistakes of the past when it came to Liverpool goalkeepers and moved forwards. So we went and bought the best and we have certainly been rewarded for it.

Champions of England, Europe and the world! We wouldn’t have done that with Loris Karius in goal.

I also feel like if Alisson wasn’t injured against Atletico Madrid, we may have had a good chance of winning the Champions League again this year. He truly is a magnificent goalkeeper and I feel so lucky to have him at my club.

Liverpool are back in training next week (already!) ahead of the new season. What's your one wish for 2020/21?

I want to continue this success and for this Liverpool side to further show that this is the best side the Premier League has seen! Retaining our league title would be what I want for next season, but I know from seeing previous sides that won’t be easy.

I believe this side is capable of it, though, despite the short turnaround. It may be a blessing in disguise that we don’t have any European commitments this summer.

A seventh Champions League would be nice next season too, but I don’t want to ask for too much!
