Liverpool mum's reaction to son's A Level results says it all

A Liverpool mum had the best reaction as she found her son had scored top grades in all his A Levels, sending him to one of the UK’s top universities.

These amazing pictures captured the moments after James Hardy, a student at Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School, received three A*s.

His delighted mum Sara can be seen jumping up and down and shouting as he found out her son found out he will be going to Cambridge University.

James got top marks in Maths, Further Maths and Physics. Those grades mean he can now take up his offer to study Natural Sciences at Jesus College in the autumn.

Speaking after he had received his results, James said: “I think she was more excited than me to be honest.

“She was just screaming and jumping up and down, she was really made up.

“I’m obviously really happy with my grades but yeah, I think she was even happier than me.

“I think she just couldn’t believe it.”

James was just one of a number of pupils at Cardinal Heenan who scored top marks in their results.

Fellow student James Moss also got three A*s, while Baisyl Biju received an A*, and A and a B.

Students’ grades were formulated through teacher assessment this year after pandemic disruption led to the cancellation of exams.

The number of A* and A grades across the country has increased significantly this year, a phenomenon expected due to that change.

This year’s results day also caps after a difficult year for students and teachers at schools across the country.

In a statement, Cardinal Heenan said it had been an “incredible morning” for its students and praised their resilience and hard work after “the toughest two academic years”.

James had similar praise for his teachers.

He said: “I can’t thank them enough for everything they’ve done because this time hasn’t been easy for them either.

“They just kept on working to make sure that we could all go on to do the things that we wanted to do in the future.

“We wouldn’t have been able to do it without them.”
