Liverpool morning headlines as strange Takumi Minamino situation explained

Here are your Liverpool morning headlines for Friday, 27 November.

Reds face Mane question for Brighton

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp faces multiple selection decisions ahead of Saturday’s tricky Premier League trip to Brighton.

As highlighted by the Echo , there are multiple questions over selection in defence and midfield, with Fabinho’s position likely to depend on whether or not Jordan Henderson starts.

Nathaniel Phillips may come in at the heart of defence after Joel Matip partnered Rhys Williams in the position for the defeat by Atalanta.

The biggest question mark could relate to Sadio Mane, who has appeared tired in recent weeks and may be due a rest.

Blood Red: Brighton boss Graham Potter says Liverpool now have best front four in world football after Diogo Jota signing

The Senegalese could be benched with Diogo Jota playing in an attacking trio also featuring Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Henderson hands Klopp injury boost

Henderson has handed Klopp a major boost by returning to first-team training ahead of the trip to Brighton.

The midfielder is now in contention to start the game against the Seagulls, although the Echo highlight that Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thiago Alcantara all remain absent.

It was in the 3-1 win at Brighton in July that Henderson sustained a knee injury that forced him to miss the final four games of the campaign, while he was substituted against Chelsea earlier this season due to a thigh complaint.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold all remain out for the Reds.

The strange situation of Minamino

Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino has played in 18 of Liverpool’s last 25 matches but has never felt like cementing his place in the side.

As argued by the Echo , the Japanese is in a strange situation whereby he is a peripheral player who is getting first-team opportunities, but only in patches and without any sustained run of minutes.

The arrival of Jota this summer clouded his situation further, as both predominantly play on the left-hand side of attack and in central positions.

Minamino’s short run-outs against Leicester and Atalanta were indicative of a player who needs a regular run of minutes in the team and could feature more frequently in the coming weeks.
