Liverpool morning headlines as some could miss out on Premier League winners medals

Here are your Liverpool morning headlines for Sunday, June 28.

FIFA congratulate Reds on title

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has sent a letter to Reds owners FSG to congratulate the club on winning the Premier League title.

Man City’s loss at Chelsea on Thursday night confirmed Liverpool’s 30-year wait for a Premier League title was over as their 23-point lead at the top is now insurmountable.

Liverpool’s celebrations have been ongoing since and FIFA president Infantino has now thanked the club - as revealed by the ECHO - for their "contribution to the development and prosperity of football".

The Reds can still set a number of Premier League records over the final seven games of the campaign.

Ten minutes that won Liverpool the title

Liverpool are champions of England for the first time in three decades and while it has been a significant season-long effort, there have notable turning points.

As highlighted by the ECHO , the closing stages of Liverpool’s and Manchester City’s games on Saturday November 2 proved crucial in setting the tone.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were six points clear at the top after City fell to shock defeats by Norwich and Wolves, but the Reds were trailing 1-0 at Aston Villa.

This was coupled with Manchester City taking a late lead at home to Southampton and, due to travel to Anfield the following week, Liverpool’s six-point lead could have been totally blown away.

However, Liverpool struck twice late at Villa Park to steal the points and the following week defeated City to increase the lead to nine points, which only got bigger since.

Liverpool players set for Premier League medal

It has taken three decades, but players of Liverpool will finally receive league winner’s medals following this season’s remarkable triumph.

As outlined by the ECHO , 21 Reds players are guaranteed to receive a commemorative Premier League medal, with others still hopeful of meeting the threshold.

Goalkeepers Alisson Becker and Adrian have both met the minimum number of games to qualify, as have six defenders - Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson, Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip.

Midfielders Gini Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Fabinho, Adam Lallana and Naby Keita are also in the grouping, along with forwards Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Divock Origi.

Xherdan Shaqiri (six) and Takumi Minamino (five) have also just met the minimum threshold of appearances.

Curtis Jones, Neco Williams and Harvey Elliot are among the younger players who could now be given a run in the team, but as things stand none will receive a medal.
