Liverpool morning headlines as Sancho hint dropped and youngsters handed new deals

Here are your Liverpool morning headlines for June 16.

Liverpool ready after Anfield practice

Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool are within six points of clinching their first league title for 30 years as the Premier League season resumes this week.

The Reds will be without their famous Anfield support, but the players say they are ready for the challenge in eerie surroundings after a three-month break from regular action.

Club captain Jordan Henderson insists “we are still very focused and very determined”, and has urged the squad to be “raring to go and not get caught cold coming out of the blocks.”

Liverpool were close to their devastating best in a 6-0 thrashing of Championship side Blackburn Rovers in a recent behind-closed-doors friendly.

This should give hope to any supporters who were concerned Liverpool would not be up to speed for the imminent Merseyside derby with Everton.

Klopp’s men head to Goodison Park this weekend after their successful Anfield friendly trial-run.

Dortmund manager gives Klopp transfer boost

Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre has handed an olive branch to Jürgen Klopp in Liverpool’s pursuit of England winger Jadon Sancho .

The 20-year-old has been tailed by a throng of Europe’s top clubs this season having been directly involved in 34 Bundesliga goals across 29 league appearances.

Ahead of the summer transfer window Favre admitted : “Of course, players will leave. We hope the players will stay, but it is possible that players will leave.”

In reference to Sancho and Real Madrid loanee Achraf Hakimi, Favre said : “You have already mentioned two that we don’t definitely know about.”

This has cast doubt over Sancho’s future in particular, suggesting a return to England - where Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been credited with serious interest - is possible.

Six youngsters sign contract extensions

Some of Liverpool’s most exciting young players have been handed contract extensions despite the ongoing global situation.

Luis Longstaff, Owen Beck, James Norris, Abdi Sharif, Remi Savage and Fidel O’Rourke have all extended their deals at the club’s academy.

The six have been awarded with new contracts following impressive seasons in the U18 and U23 setups, with the likes of winger Longstaff earning a two-year extension after four goals in 11 Premier League 2 outings.

Next on their agenda will be making inroads into Jürgen Klopp’s first-team setup as teammates Ki-Jana Hoever and Leighton Clarkson have managed over the past year or so.

The prospect of Liverpool tying up the Premier League title with games to spare could mean the possibility of being involved in matchday squads for some of those to have signed new deals
