Liverpool morning headlines as Rhian Brewster's future in limbo as Bobby Duncan regrets Reds exit

Here are your Liverpool morning headlines for Saturday, 26 September.

Former Liverpool youngster opens ups over Reds’ departure

Ex-Liverpool forward Bobby Duncan has explained his regret about his exit from the club.

The 19-year-old, who signed for Championship side Derby County on Friday, left the Reds last summer for Fiorentina in a £1.8 million move, including a 20% sell-on clause.

But his departure from Anfield was mired in controversy for his desire to leave and was made public in an incendiary social media post from then agent Saif Rubie, whom Duncan split with earlier this year.

Duncan wrote on Instagram : “I took the move to Italy with only one thing as a priority, to try and develop further as a footballer.

“The way in which the last transfer was facilitated was incorrect & unnecessary and has all proved to be a very big learning experience for me as a player and person.”

Klopp will love one particular Jota attribute

New Liverpool signing Diogo Jota may not be a regular starter just yet, but he has a skillet that manager Jurgen Klopp will love.

Andrew Beasley writes in the ECHO that the 23-year-old Portuguese’ skillet is far more in-line with those of his new colleagues at Anfield – particularly Sadio Mane’s – and his statistics suggest he can offer a new dimension to the Reds’ attack, too.

The report states: “Liverpool are not a side who dribbles past opposing players that often when considering how much time they spend attacking. Jota certainly can, as his record for 2019/2020 will confirm.

“The Portugal international took the ball past a total of 85 players in the Premier League last season (via FBRef.com ) which was the sixth most in the top flight, and put him 19th on the chart for Europe’s big five leagues.”

Brewster risks being left in limbo as Blades stall over transfer

Sheffield United are stalling over a move for Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster.

He was left out of Thursday’s Carabao Cup third round win at Lincoln City, with Blades boss Chris Wilder keen to sign the 20-year-old on a permanent basis, having held talks with Klopp.

But it is understood that the Yorkshire club are reluctant to meet the Reds’ asking price of £20million .

They have already submitted an offer for a season-long loan, but Liverpool would prefer a permanent departure for the player who spent the second-half of last season with Swansea City.

Wilder said: “The buying club – are they prepared to go to that price? These all have to happen.

“I have identified players and there are things that need to happen from a negotiation point of view above me.”
