Liverpool morning headlines as Luis Suarez claim made about new signing Diogo Jota

Liverpool shift focus to outgoings after Jota deal

Liverpool will turn their attention towards selling some players after completing two impressive deals for new recruits.

The Reds signed Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich and Diogo Jota from Wolverhampton Wanderers to significantly boost Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

And while there have been calls for a new centre-back, the club will now turn to potential outgoings during the last two weeks of the transfer window, as our Liverpool correspondent Paul Gorst writes .

One player whose future is yet to be resolved is Rhian Brewster. As many as 10 clubs have asked about the striker’s situation with Liverpool not averse to letting him go on a permanent deal.

Brewster is hot property after starring on loan for Swansea City last season, scoring 11 goals in 22 games.

Thiago respects Klopp tradition

New signing Thiago says he respects Klopp’s tradition of not touching the ‘This Is Anfield’ sign until he wins something with the club.

Klopp famously outlined his superstition in 2016 after touching the symbol during his time as Borussia Dortmund boss before going on to lose the match 4-0.

And Thiago appears to be on the same wavelength as his new manager as he revealed what Fernando Torres advised him not to do.

"To touch that symbol we have to deserve it to win as many trophies as we can,” said the midfielder.

"That is why today I will respect that tradition."

Thiago made his Liverpool debut in the 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday.

‘Jota has flashes of Suarez’

Liverpool fans have been told they can expect to see glimpses of Luis Suarez in new signing Jota.

The Portuguese winger joined the Reds in a £41million deal after starring for Wolves following their return to the Premier League.

And Alex Dicken, a Wolves reporter for the Birmingham Mail who has followed Jota closely over the last three years, believes the 23-year-old will be an ‘incredible’ addition to the Liverpool squad.

"I don’t want to draw a comparison because Luis Suarez is held in the highest esteem by Liverpool fans, but the way Suarez wriggles his way through people, rather than go around the man going straight through, that is the way that Jota plays,” Dicken told Blood Red on a Diogo Jota lowdown podcast .

"That low centre of gravity upsets defenders. Jota is nowhere near what Suarez has achieved, but in terms of style, the way he dribbles uniquely with the ball, it is similar."

Jota scored 44 goals in 131 games for Wolves after signing from Porto in 2017.
