Liverpool morning headlines as Kylian Mbappe transfer given backing

Liverpool ‘target’ transfer listed by Lyon

While Timo Werner remains the player most strongly linked with a move to Anfield this summer, Liverpool will obviously have other targets they are looking to secure.

The Daily Star have reported that Lyon’s 21-year old midfielder Houssem Aouar is one player who has caught their eye, and according to L’Equipe, he has been put up for sale.

After a disappointing campaign in which they finished seventh – after Ligue 1 was cancelled early due to the coronavirus crisis – Lyon have decided they need to sell players to raise funds. Moussa Dembele and Memphis Depay have also reportedly been made available.

Aouar is valued at £44m, and other Premier League clubs are said to be interested. He scored three goals and assisted four in the league this season.

Ian Wright thinks Liverpool could sign Mbappe

Despite Jurgen Klopp publically dismissing the rumours in the past, the idea of Liverpool signing Kylian Mbappe continues to linger.

The 21-year old World Cup winner is arguably the most sought after player in the world at the moment, and has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid.

But speaking on Match of the Day’s Top 10 podcast, Arsenal legend Ian Wright said he could see the Paris Saint-Germain star at Anfield in the future.

“You could see Mbappe, at the moment, at Liverpool. You can definitely see that,” he said.

“If we’re talking about it now, I could see Mbappe at Liverpool but where would he fit into? I think Liverpool are at that level where Mbappe could go.”

Eight clubs oppose neutral venues

Prime Minister Boris Johnson gave a statement on Sunday evening regarding the coronavirus crisis, and the Premier League are set for discussions today on how it affects Project Restart.

But issues which could prevent the resumption of top level football are starting to mount up. Players have voiced their concerns at being made to play before it is entirely safe to do so, and Brighton & Hove Albion recently confirmed that a third player of theirs had tested positive for COVID-19.

It is also now believed that up to eight clubs are against the use of neutral venues. The bottom six sides voiced their disapproval of the idea, and according to The Telegraph two further teams have joined them.

With 14 of the 20 teams needing to vote the same way in order for any changes to occur, this could prove a significant obstacle to the 2019/20 season being completed in full.
