Liverpool morning headlines as Klopp’s successor emerging and Mourinho talks VAR on Pickford

Here are your Liverpool morning headlines for Tuesday, 27 October.

Klopp’s successor identified?

Jurgen Klopp is a man of his word, and with four years remaining on his Liverpool contract, there’s little chance of him leaving the club any earlier.

Nonetheless, there is always speculation surrounding who will be the next manager at any of the top clubs, and the Reds are no different.

With many of the top clubs across Europe currently being managed by former players, it’s inevitable to wonder if Steven Gerrard will step into the manager’s office at Anfield when Klopp’s time with Liverpool draws to a close.

And Gerrard is certainly doing impressive work with Rangers, as this excellent analysis by Colin Millar illustrates.

Blood Red: Thiago Alcantara takes part in individual training at Melwood

New training ground ready to go

All of the great Liverpool sides in the club’s history have trained and prepared for matches at Melwood.

But the club are ready to move to their new state-of-the-art facility in Kirkby, and should start working there during the international break next month.

Existing club partners AXA will sponsor the new facility, which will be known as the AXA Training Centre. Liverpool’s chief executive officer has been speaking about the deal.

“We’re pleased to have AXA on board as we start this new chapter at the club and are proud to expand our relationship with a brand that shares our common values and aspirations both on and off the pitch,” he said. Mourinho comments on Pickford incident

It’s been over a week since the contentious Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, in which Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford got away with a horrendous challenge on Virgil van Dijk.

Yet the furore surrounding the lack of action taken by the VAR that day shows no signs of dying down.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho waded into the debate yesterday to give his thoughts on both the derby incident, and one between Manchester City and Porto in the Champions League.

"If the referee makes that mistake, everybody understands because the game is 100mph but with the VAR, how can that VAR make that mistake? And the situation of Pickford for me is the same. It’s the VAR, it’s not the referee,” he said.

Mourinho’s other comments on the standard of refereeing are well worth a read too .
