Liverpool morning headlines as Jurgen Klopp may have answer to attacking dilemma

Here are your Liverpool morning headlines for Sunday, 23 August.

Brewster stakes claim on future

Rhian Brewster made a 45-minute appearance for Liverpool in Saturday’s friendly but that was more than enough to show his ability.

The London-born striker hit 11 goals in 22 appearances for Swansea City in the second half of last season and the Echo highlighted how he could be a regular in Liverpool’s first-team squad this campaign.

Brewster found the net yesterday and had two penalty claims turned down in an impressive outing in Austria.

It is of course unlikely he can break up the trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino - but Brewster has a bright future at Anfield and may play an important role this term.

It is a tricky balance finding capable back-up for the first choice stars. Could Brewster be an immediate answer to that dilemma?

All should become clear soon whether Jurgen Klopp opts to send the youngster on another loan spell or keeps him as a rotation option for the current campaign.

Klopp praise for Tsimikas debut

Kostas Tsimikas made his first outing for Liverpool on Saturday in a 3-0 pre-season friendly victory over Stuttgart.

The Greek full-back was signed from Olympiakos earlier this month and impressed on his first showing for the Reds, with Jurgen Klopp excited by his potential.

Klopp said of his performance, as cited by the Echo : "Good, good. He is a pretty quick player and pretty confident, how you will hear in his [post-match] interview.

"But he is a good player - a really good player - and he did well. The next challenge for him is now to get used to our defending and things.

"It will take time, no doubt, but when he has the ball it looks not so bad."

Champions League final indicator for Reds

For the first time in three seasons, Liverpool will not be contesting the Champions League final.

Tonight’s showpiece event sees Bayern Munich take on Paris Saint-Germain and, as highlighted by the Echo , these two sides are likely to be among the main challengers to the Reds in Europe in the coming years.

The waning powers of Barcelona and Juventus has shifted the elite European football landscape, and Liverpool will be keen to reassert themselves in next season’s competition - particularly as the final will be held in Istanbul.

However, Bayern and PSG have assembled formidable teams and Klopp will no doubt be taking plenty of notes on tonight’s game ahead of what might lay in store next term.
