Liverpool morning headlines as Jurgen Klopp keeps Pep Guardiola promise while Timo Werner transfer discussed

Here are your Liverpool morning headlines for Monday, June 1.

Klopp kept promise he made to Guardiola

One year ago today Liverpool became champions of Europe for the sixth time in their history. Talking to the media after the game, Jurgen Klopp revealed he vowed to Pep Guardiola that they’d go toe-to-toe once again in 2019/20.

“A second ago I spoke to Pep Guardiola on the phone," he said.

“We promised each other that we will kick each other's butts again next season. We will go for everything and see what we get.”

Both sides have picked up silverware since, and look set for further trophies before the season is out. Klopp is certainly a man of his word.

Nagelsmann on Werner transfer

RB Leipzig’s manager Julian Nagelsmann has said he has done everything he can to convince Timo Werner to stay with the club, amid links to Liverpool.

"A player has to feel that he can get better. If he doesn't feel that, it wouldn't do any good if I kept on telling him to stay here. In the end it is his life, his career, he can decide that,” he said.

"We already had this discussion last year, then in winter and now again. I'm basically someone who knows what he has to say and can add his two cents to everything.

"But here I can't think of anything new to say to Timo either. So I rather try to convince him with actions and in the end he has to know what he wants to do."

Liverpool’s predicted line up against Everton

With the Premier League set to restart in under three weeks, fans can start thinking about who will be turning out for their team in their first match back.

The fixtures have yet to be confirmed, but it’s believed Liverpool will get back underway with a Merseyside derby. ECHO journalist Dan Kay has been considering who might get the nod from Klopp for the trip to Everton.

“It will be an enormous boost for the Reds to have Alisson Becker back in goal.

“As so often is the case, the main selection dilemmas will come in midfield,” he added.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson ; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson ; Wijnaldum, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain ; Salah, Firmino, Mane
