Liverpool morning headlines as £10m left-back bid rejected and Jurgen Klopp future claim made

Here are the Liverpool morning headlines for Friday, August 7.

Liverpool’s £10million bid for Norwich City man rejected

Norwich City have rejected Liverpool’s offer of £10m for left-back Jamal Lewis as the Premier League champions look for cover for Andy Robertson.

Jurgen Klopp has identified the Canaries full back as the ideal deputy for Robertson, with the Reds boss keen to add some depth to his squad ahead of the start of the 2020/21 season in just a few weeks.

The Anfield club lodged a bid of £10m for Lewis, who suffered relegation with the Canaries at the end of the 2019/20 Premier League season, but Norwich are holding out for a fee of £20m.

Lewis himself has made it clear to his current employers that he would like to make the move to Liverpool in order to work under Klopp and his title-winning squad.

Liverpool’s Premier League trophy plans on hold

Liverpool have not yet confirmed when fans will be able to see the Premier League trophy, with plans to show off the club’s latest piece of silverware on hold for now.

The Reds still want to give supporters the chance to get their picture taken with the famous trophy at some point in the near future, but have decided against providing a definite timeframe for when that could happen.

Last year saw Liverpool open up the Kop Bar for fans to see the Champions League trophy and get their picture taken with it, but social distancing measures due to Covid-19 have so far made that sort of thing impossible this year.

Plans are in the pipeline for something similar, but the ECHO understands this will only be given the green light when it is deemed safe.

Michael Ballack says Jurgen Klopp would be ‘perfect’ for Germany job

Former Bayern Munich and Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack claims Klopp would be “perfect” for the German national team manager’s job after he is finished at Liverpool.

Ballack praised Klopp for guiding the Anfield club to their first Premier League title and turned the focus towards what the former Borussia Dortmund boss could do in charge of his country’s national team.

“It is impressive how Jurgen established Liverpool at the top, then led them to the Champions League triumph and now to the championship title,” he told German outlet Sportbuzzer.

“Why shouldn't one of the best coaches in the world be a candidate for the national coaching post?” he responded when asked whether Klopp would be a candidate to replace Joachim Low one day.

“The question is not whether he has the qualities for it, but whether Klopp would even like to become a national coach. He is in a position where he can choose anything. Should he ever have enough as a club coach, the position of national coach would be a great story for him and German football. This connection would be perfect.”
