Liverpool miss out on transfer cash windfall this summer after targets aren't met

Liverpool will miss out on a cash windfall of almost £2million this summer following Rafa Camacho's move to Sporting Lisbon.

Camacho switched to the Portuguese side 12 months ago after refusing to sign a new contract with the Reds.

Liverpool negotiated a fee of 5m euros for the winger with 2m euros of add-ons, while also inserting a 20% sell-on clause.

A report in Portuguese outlet Record has claimed the extras are in part dependent on Camacho making more than 30 appearances for Sporting.

And with the 20-year-old having featured 21 times this season, it makes it impossible for him to reach the necessary target during his debut campaign with the club given the Portuguese league have only nine games remaining.

However, the ECHO understands the add-ons could still be triggered over the remainder of the player's five-year contract at Sporting.

Camacho spent three years at Liverpool, initially at the Academy and then moving up to work with the first team at Melwood.

He made his full debut at right-back against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup in January 2019 and made a late substitute appearance at home to Crystal Palace in the Premier League later that month.

The player, though, was unhappy at not being used in his normal attacking position and made his feelings clear on Instagram but later dismissed suggestions of a falling out with Jurgen Klopp.
