Liverpool might have found their own Matthijs de Ligt to play alongside Virgil van Dijk

Liverpool might have already discovered their own Matthijs de Ligt in the shape of Dutch youngster Ki-Jana Hoever.

The Academy defender started for the Netherlands on Sunday night as they were crowned U17 European Champions in Dublin.

De Ligt has been continuously linked with a move to Liverpool, though the ECHO understands the Reds are not seeking to secure the centre-half's services this summer.

And the club's stance may be in response to Hoever's burgeoning potential.

The former Ajax youth player started as right-back for Holland as the youngsters ran out 4-2 winners over Italy.

In the first-half Hoever hit a stunning free-kick which rattled off the post and was followed in by team-mate Naoufal Bannis.

Jurgen Klopp gave the starlet his first-team debut during the FA Cup defeat at Wolves in January.

The 17-year-old showed composure on the night after replacing the injured Dejan Lovren.

And his performance against the Italians at the weekend had Liverpool fans comparing the teenager to defensive mainstay Virgil van Dijk.

One fan wrote: "Next VVD" While another added: "Van Dijk style."

Social media was full of praise as Liverpool supporters gushed over what one described as "An unbelievable talent".

A Reds fan also wrote: "I think he may be the reason why we won't sign De Ligt."
