Liverpool midfielder Jake Cain has completed a permanent move to Swindon Town, the League Two club has announced.
Cain signs a two-and-a-half year contract that runs until the summer of 2025. Swindon have confirmed that Liverpool will receive an undisclosed fee for the transfer of the 21-year-old midfielder.
Cain had been with Liverpool since the age of nine, and had progressed through the club’s youth ranks. The midfielder was awarded his senior debut by Jurgen Klopp for the Reds in February 2020 against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup, and later had a loan spell with Newport County in 2021/22.

The midfielder, who was born in Wigan, had been playing for Liverpool’s Under-21 side prior to his exit, making 13 appearances. Cain has now explained why he took the decision to leave the Reds after 12 years at the club.
“It’s a great feeling to be here and I’m really looking forward to getting involved, playing good football and winning games,” Cain told Swindon’s club website.
“This is a really promising team with a lot of talented young players who are hungry and ambitious, and I really want to be a part of that.
“I’ve come here for regular first-team football and to prove myself at this level, showing just how good I can be.”
Swindon’s technical director, Sandro Di Michele, also explained why the League Two club opted to make a move for the Liverpool midfielder.
“I’m incredibly excited about the signing of Jake,” said Di Michele.
“He’s been with Liverpool from a young age and spent a lot of time in and around their first-team, and also had a productive loan spell in League Two.
“He’s a really talented footballer who is well suited to our style. He possesses great vision and has an eye for a pass, and is another young prospect that will get Town fans excited as we continue our push for promotion this season.”
