Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain latest: Liverpool midfielder spotted holding hamstring as injury return lasts only 40 minutes

Jurgen Klopp faces an anxious wait on news of a potential setback for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after his Liverpool return lasted just 40 minutes.

The midfielder was expected to step up his comeback from a serious knee injury with a first-half outing for the club’s U23s at Derby County on Friday afternoon.

However, he was withdrawn five minutes before the break and headed straight for the dressing room alongside a physio.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was spotted holding his hamstring during the opening 45 minutes of the young Reds’ latest Premier League 2 fixture.

But he showed a number of nice touches during an otherwise encouraging outing at Derby’s training ground.

Klopp will hope his No21’s withdrawal was merely precautionary, having previously expressed hope of a first-team return prior to the end of the season.
