Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain makes Champions League final admission

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has admitted his Arsenal connections made him even more desperate for Liverpool to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final.

The Reds saw off Mauricio Pochettino's side 2-0 to lift the European Cup for a sixth time in Madrid on Saturday.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was on the bench having only recently returned from almost 12 months on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.

The midfielder has become a favourite with Liverpool fans having moved from Arsenal in August 2017.

And, speaking to ex-Gunners team-mate Per Mertescaker on DAZN after the match, he revealed he was delighted the Reds had done a favour to fans of his former club by upsetting their neighbours.

“As former Gooners we know what that meant to all the Arsenal fans out there,” said Oxlade-Chamberlain.

“It was massive for us at Liverpool but once a Gooner, always a Gooner, is what they say.

“I had a personal feeling in that game that we needed to get it done for all the people I left at Arsenal.

“I know they were all willing us on to win that one. I'm happy that we could do it.”
