As a result of police enquiries, five people have been arrested, three of which are from Liverpool, one is from Sefton and another from Swindon.
The arrests include two 24-year-old men from Liverpool and a 22-year-old man, also from Liverpool, on suspicion of violent disorder.
A 22-year-old man from Sefton has also been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
While a 41-year-old man from Swindon has been arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm.
All five have been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Police Constable Jamie Brown said: "This was a large scale disorder involving multiple people – we’ve been conducting extensive enquiries and have arrested five people but through our CCTV enquiries, we know there were more people involved, as well as further victims who have not made contact with police.
"Please get in touch as the information you have could potentially be significant to our investigation.
"Violence of this nature will not be tolerated and the behaviour of those involved would no doubt have caused fear amongst those attempting to enjoy a night out in Old Town.
"We will continue to conduct enquiries to ensure those involved are identified and put before the courts."
Officers investigating are now appealing for witnesses and further victims to get in touch.
