Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson in online spat with Everton fan over Tom Davies

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson was involved in an online spat with a fellow Everton fan after the Blues suffered a 2-1 defeat at Leicester City.

Despite taking the lead through Richarlison, a seventh loss in their last 10 Premier League games ensured under-achieving Everton , who were expected to challenge for a European place this term after another summer of expensive recruitment, remain just one place and two points above the relegation zone, increasing the pressure on manager Marco Silva .

Replying to a tweet by Grand Old Team, asking for a one word summary of the game, Mr Anderson wrote: “Davies.”

Home-grown hero Tom Davies , is a Liverpool-born player who progressed through the club's youth academy to become a first team player.

In the ECHO's Player Ratings from the game, Adam Jones explained how the 21-year-old had a hand in both of the goals Everton conceded, writing: “He will be disappointed to have lost a 50/50 challenge in the build-up Leicester's equaliser, and that he was sloppy in giving the ball away for Kelechi Iheanacho's decisive winner.”

It seems that one Blue took exception to Mr Anderson's reply and hit back with a foul-mouthed response of his own.

Terry Molloy said: “Tom's a young local lad, done really well since he's been back in the side, clearly messed up today.

"But doesn't need his f****** Mayor to be going on twitter and telling the City how s*** he is. Get a grip.”

Mr Anderson then countered with “Never said he was s*** you did, I said he made two mistakes and those two mistakes led to two goals. Incidentally I am the Elected Mayor, not f****** Mayor, just saying.”
