Here is your Liverpool morning digest on Thursday, January 28.
Reds may have already avoided transfer mistake
Liverpool were reportedly trying to sign Watford winger Ismaila Sarr over the summer before opting to buy Diogo Jota from Wolves in the end.
The Reds made contact with the relegated side over a move for Sarr, but the club were unwilling to budge from their £40million valuation of the speedy wide man.
So, in the same week, Jurgen Klopp's side completed the signing of Jota from Wolves for around £45m and the Reds found the Midlands club much more accommodating, with the Reds allowed to spread out the fee.
The Portugal forward has been a revelation for Liverpool so far, scoring nine goals in all competitions before picking up an injury in the Champions League last month.
By contrast, Sarr has struggled, somewhat surprisingly, for Watford in the Championship so far this season.
The 22-year-old has scored five goals in 22 appearances over the course of 1,701 minutes on the field.

Mourinho's title verdict and Van Dijk claim
Liverpool travel to Tottenham Hotspur this evening as the Reds look to return to winning ways in the Premier League.
Klopp's men are without a win in the league since their 7-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace last month and will be desperate to rekindle some sort of form at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Speaking prior to the Premier League clash, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho believes Liverpool can still defend their title this season.
“When you win once you know you have the team to win it twice,” the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss said when asked about Liverpool's form via Football.London.
"When you win it you know you are the best team and Liverpool was not just about winning, it was about winning so comfortably.
“Would anyone expect Liverpool to have a similar run to last season when winning, winning and winning non stop?
“I would not expect that as what they did was so difficult. And to win it the second time in the same way is even more difficult.
“But to win the title again I think they believe they can and I believe that is what they really want.”
Mourinho also spoke about Virgil van Dijk, who has been out with a serious knee injury he suffered in October against Everton.
“You cannot make miracles. You have to compensate with what you have and Liverpool, when you speak about Van Dijk, you cannot replace him," the Spurs boss said.
“There are some players you cannot replace. Like when Harry Kane was injured. You cannot replace Harry Kane.
“You cannot replace Van Dijk. You can only replace Van Dijk with Van Dijk when Van Dijk is back."
