Liverpool match-winner Curtis Jones sends message to Jurgen Klopp after Everton FA Cup triumph

Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones has admitted he's "begged" for first-team football this season after scoring the match-winning goal against Everton in the FA Cup.

The 18-year-old secured the Reds' passage into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a sublime strike to seal a 1-0 victory over their oldest rival.

In a match where Jurgen Klopp made nine changes from Liverpool's 2-0 win over Sheffield United, compared to the two alterations made by Carlo Ancelotti, it was the Reds' youngsters that stood out, with Jones capping his man-of-the-match display with a goal he will never forget.

Speaking to the BBC after the match, Jones has revealed there has been times where he has been left frustrated by his lack of first-team minutes and even "begging" to come on, in his head.

"I just go out there and try to play my game," Jones told the BBC after Liverpool's 1-0 win.

"I've had a bit of a tough time, well not tough, but frustrating at times. I've been on the bench, then you get a bit of a taste then on the bench again.

"There's been times where in my head I'm begging to come on and then I've tried to go out there today and showed what I'm capable of doing. Hopefully, I've topped that off with a good performance and as everyone is saying a great goal."

Jones is a man who has experienced plenty of highs in his fledgeling Liverpool career, having scored the decisive penalty that saw Klopp's side knock out Arsenal in the Carabao Cup after a 5-5 draw earlier in the season.

The 18-year-old paid testament to working with the Liverpool's "world class" first-team players, that continue to help him develop, day in, day out.

"I can't really (put it into words)," he added.

"For me, it's just being around these (first-team) every day and learning from their experience and the ones who have had a great career. There are world-class players in our team as you see, I learn every day. I think I went and showed it on the pitch."
