Liverpool Marks & Spencer store smashed up by raiders

A city centre store had a large gaping hole left in one of its windows this morning after a burglary.

Officers were alerted to the intruder alarm sounding at Marks & Spencer on Church Street in Liverpool city centre shortly after midnight.

It is believed the male entered when the store was still open and the alarm was triggered at 12.05am today (Tuesday, November 10).

A police spokesperson said: "An offender is believed to have entered the store while it was open, taken items of clothing and smashed a window using a fire extinguisher when leaving the premises."

Assisted by Citywatch CCTV cameras, located in the Skelhorn Street area, a 24-year-old man from Croydon was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

He has been taken into custody to be questioned.
