Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp relishing semi-final showdown with Barcelona

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is relishing the prospect of taking on Barcelona - but admitted he will need "a few nights" to work out how to stop Lionel Messi when his side come face-to-face with the Argentine in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Klopp's side booked their place in the last four with a 6-1 aggregate win over Porto, with the Reds claiming a 4-1 win at the Estadio do Dragao in the second-leg on Wednesday night.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk all scored as the Reds reached the semi-final stage of European football's premier competition for the second time in successive seasons.

While Messi and his side overcame Manchester United in the last eight, with the Catalan side easing to a 4-0 aggregate win over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men.

“Thank God I don’t have to think about that tonight. I have a few nights," Klopp told reporters when asked afterwards about the prospect of facing one of the greatest players in the world.

"No one has so far managed it, but we will try. We have a few jobs before that.

Liverpool news as Virgil van Dijk believes his side can handle the pressure of the Premier League run-in

"Tonight we are in the semi-final and we play on Sunday against Cardiff - that's in my mind and will be in my mind 100 per cent when I wake up tomorrow and not how we play against Barcelona.

"We have enough time for that and we can watch so many teams who tried it already and maybe we find something. I'm looking forward to it, but not tonight. It's brilliant.

Liverpool kit leaked - Could this be the new home strip for next season?

"The news that there's a competition, a proper football game between Barcelona and Liverpool, I think that's really good news. I'm happy for all the people in the club that it's like this; second time in the second year in the semi-final.

"That's a big statement. However you go there, it's difficult. Everybody tries it and nobody did it in the last two years. I am really proud of the boys, it's brilliant what they did. We did it in different ways, it makes it even more special. I'm really happy.
