Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp 'personally responds' to Kostas Tsimikas transfer enquiry

Liverpool have made their stance on the future of Kostas Tsimikas very clear to a number of clubs that have approached them over the defender - he will remain at Anfield next season.

Serie A giants Napoli have sought out Tsimikas as a potential summer signing as they look to strengthen their options at left-back, but have already had their approach rebuffed by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

According to Italian outlet Il Mattino, Klopp is personally responding to offers with a short and simple decline.

Recent reports contradicted the idea that Liverpool were entirely against the idea of letting the defender go, though it was thought they favoured a permanent departure rather than a loan stint away.

However, now it seems like they will opt to keep him in Merseyside altogether, despite a dismal debut season in a Liverpool shirt.

Signed from Olympiacos last summer, the 25-year-old has barely featured at all for a Liverpool side that struggled more than ever last season.

As deputy to first-choice and ever-present left back Andy Robertson, Tsimikas has found first-team football very hard to come by at Anfield.

It therefore comes as somewhat of a surprise that the Greece international has attracted such interest, Napoli not the only side to have a proposal rejected by Liverpool.

The left-back has made just seven appearances for Klopp’s side since his arrival in Merseyside, with many of those appearances coming in the form of cameos from the bench.

Given the fact Tsimikas cost Liverpool around £11.5m, the club's reluctance to let him call time on his Reds career just one year in is understandable.

His first campaign as a Liverpool player, the majority of it spent on the substitutes bench, represented quite the fall from grace for a player that was crowned the Greek Footballer of the Year as recently as the 2019/20 campaign.

Last season, it took until February for Tsimikas to make his Premier League debut, one to forget as it came in the humiliating 4-1 home defeat to eventual champions Manchester City.
