Jurgen Klopp joked that he is looking forward to discussing “the plumbing issue, the electricity, the pool” with landlord Brendan Rodgers when the current and former Liverpool managers meet for a charity match at Celtic’s Parkhead stadium on Saturday.
Klopp will manage Team Milner while Celtic boss Rodgers leads Team Petrov in a Match For Cancer that will feature James Milner, Stiliyan Petrov a number of star names on both sides.
And having rented Rodgers’ Formby mansion when he succeeded the Northern Irishman as Liverpool manager in October 2015, Klopp said he is looking forward to discussing the property.
“It will be fun for sure,” Klopp said in a video posted on Celtic’s Twitter page. “Especially because I meet my landlord, I think for the first time since he left Liverpool and I came here. We have a lot of things to talk about.
“The plumbing issue, electricity, the pool and stuff like that. So Brendan, hope you are in good shape and we can sort a few things that day.”
Team Milner features former Chelsea captain John Terry, retired Spain internationals Marcos Senna and Joan Capdevila, two-time Champions League winner Owen Hargreaves and a host of former Liverpool players, while Team Petrov includes legendary Bulgarian striker Hristo Stoichkov, Spanish midfielder Gaizka Mendieta and former Celtic striker Henrik Larsson.
Klopp is relishing the prospect of visiting the Parkhead dugout, but admitted that the experience will be very different to what he is used to at Liverpool.
“It's my first time in your wonderful, famous stadium and probably my first time in Glasgow in general,” he added. “So a big day for me and hopefully a very nice day for all of you.
“As a manager it's always difficult to prepare a game, in this specific case it's even more difficult because nobody can blame me for recruitment, or scouting.
“I have nothing to do with the team, maybe nothing to do with the lineup, because James Milner is in my team and he's a very demanding person. He will tell me probably, ‘he plays there, he plays there’.”
All proceeds from the match will be distributed to cancer charities through the Celtic FC Foundation, the Stiliyan Petrov Foundation and the James Milner Foundation.
