Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is fans' choice to coach Barcelona next season

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is the favoured choice to be Barcelona coach next season.

That's according to a poll carried out by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo .

The newspaper asked Barcelona supporters club members whether they would like current boss Ernesto Valverde to remain in charge for the 2020/21 campaign but despite guiding the team to the La Liga title for the last two years and currently topping the table, some 80% of participants wanted him out.

When asked who they would like to see in the Camp Nou hotseat, Klopp , the Reds boss who masterminded the Catalan giants' Champions League exit last term when his side overturned a 3-0 semi-final first leg deficit to triumph 4-0 in the return match at Anfield, came out on top.

The 52-year-old was the number one choice of Barca fans with 33.6% favouring him.

Klopp edged out a couple of his former opposite numbers from across Stanley Park, ex-Everton managers Ronald Koeman and Roberto Martinez.

Netherlands coach Koeman – a Barcelona legend as a player – polled 31.96% of votes while Catalan-born Martinez, now in charge of Low Countries neighbours Belgium, received 17.21% of votes.

There seemed less appetite for a return for all-conquering coach Pep Guardiola, who was previously at the helm between 2008-12, with the Manchester City gaffer picking up just 6.86% of votes.

It seems unlikely though that Klopp who is settled on Merseyside, and who has guided Liverpool to the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup this year, would be interested in quitting the Reds any time soon, even for a club of Barcelona's magnitude.

His side are on course for the club's first League Championship in 30 years and he penned a contract extension at Liverpool earlier this month to keep him tied down until 2024.
