Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits Pep Guardiola is 'the best in the world'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted Pep Guardiola is the 'best in the world' and explained why he'd choose to be stuck on a desert island with the Manchester City boss.

The pair have a rivalry on the pitch, as City and Liverpool have battled it out for the title in recent seasons, but off it, there is a huge amount of respect.

Both have been described as two of the best managers in the game, but Klopp refuses to put himself in that conversation, despite his success at Anfield.

"No, of course not. I'm not," he told Sky Sports. "I know my struggles, I know my problems.

"Whatever it means to be the best manager, I don't know exactly. I'm nothing without my coaches around me and I don't want to be.

"For me [the best in the world] it's Pep Guardiola. He's just really difficult to play against."

Liverpool or Manchester City have won the last four Premier League titles, City pipped the Reds to the trophy in 2018/19 by just one point.

This season's title race is also expected to go right to the wire, but in a three-horse race between Liverpool, City and Chelsea.

The Merseyside club are currently above their Manchester rival in the table, but just a point separates the two in second and third. Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea sit in top spot.

Klopp's respect for Guardiola extends beyond football matters, though, as he would choose to be stranded on a desert island with the City boss.

He also named fellow German international and Norwich manager Daniel Farke.

"What a horrible scenario. I'd have to go with Pep and Daniel Farke," Klopp continued. "I like Daniel a lot and Pep is pretty inspiring. We could talk about different things other than football."
