Liverpool man's eBay bid declined as seller says he would be 'unhappy' selling to a scouser

A Liverpool man was left 'shocked' when an eBay shop refused to sell to him because he was a scouser.

Ray Watt, from Calderstones, tried to buy a second hand Giant TCR Advanced Pro Bike from eBay shop Lainhead_electricals however his bid was declined.

The 53-year-old made a bid of £1,000 on the bike but received a notification that his offer had been declined.

He got a message that read: "Hi sorry too low, and would be unhappy if I sold to Scouser."

Ray said he 'nearly fell over' when he saw what the eBay seller had messaged him back, he said: "I thought I'd bid £1,000 initially and then go up if needs be.

"I got a message back to say declined, I expected them to say we won't take that price but would take another price, maybe £1,200 or £1,300.

"But he came back saying he wouldn't sell to Scousers. I nearly fell over when I read it, I couldn't believe it."

Ray wanted to purchase the bike because he is a road cyclist, however, he said he 'wouldn't even take the bike for free now.'

He decided to bid on the bike because he saw it came from what he thought was a reputable seller with 'positive reviews'. The eBay shop has 99.9% Positive Feedback.

Ray told the ECHO : "They've got a lot of positive feedback so when they came back saying that I couldn't believe it.

"I messaged back and said 'surely this is a bit of tongue in cheek?' but they haven't replied.

"I was tempted to write something nasty back but of course wouldn't want to. I was shocked more than anything, it's just crazy."

The ECHO contacted the eBay shop that was selling the bike, however they declined to comment.
