Merseyside detectives investigating the murder of a teenager have arrested a 20-year-old man from Everton.
Lewis Dunne, 16, left his home at 10.15pm on Sunday to go to the shops but was shot in the back less than an hour later and died in hospital. He was found on the banks of the Leeds-Liverpool canal in the Eldonian Village in Vauxhall, Liverpool.
The man was taken to a police station where he will be interviewed by detectives. The arrest came as the detective leading the hunt for Lewis’s killer on Wednesday vowed to “leave no stone unturned”.
DCI Tom Keaton said police were following up positive lines of inquiry.
“Detectives are working hard to build up a picture of Lewis’s final moments and I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen Lewis on Sunday night,” he said.
“We will leave no stone unturned in our search and officers are currently trawling through extensive CCTV footage to identify those responsible.”
A postmortem found Lewis died from a single shotgun blast. House-to-house inquiries have been completed and divers have finished searching the canal and recovered several items including mobile phones and jackets, which will be examined by forensic experts.
The shooting is the third to result in a teenager’s death in Liverpool this year. In February, Kevin Wilson, 17, died from a single gunshot wound to the back, and Vinny Waddington, another teenager, was shot dead in July.
